WordPress Developer
Location: This is Fever Ltd. Chapel St North, 1st Floor, Colchester, Essex, CO2 7AT.
Salary: TBC depending on experience
We are seeking a skilled WordPress Developer to join our development team and support our increased project workload. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge WordPress technologies in a fast-growing agency environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch
- Maintain and enhance existing WordPress websites
- Implement responsive designs that work across all devices and browsers
- Optimise websites for performance, speed, and SEO
- Work on various client projects and internal development initiatives
- Stay current with the latest WordPress updates, plugins, and best practices
- Collaborate on code reviews and maintain coding standards
- Work closely with our Account management team
- Deliver projects on time, on point and within scope
- Participate in client requirement analysis and technical planning
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently
- Support quality control processes
- Support the maintenance of our client websites
- Work alongside our development team lead
- Continuously expand WordPress knowledge
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and documentation
- Support team training initiatives and skill development
- Participate in department performance and continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the agencies processes
Essential Requirements
- WordPress Expertise: Minimum 3+ years of WordPress development experience
- PHP: Strong proficiency in PHP 8.2+ and object-oriented programming
- Frontend Technologies: HTML5, Tailwind, Alpine
- Database: MySQL/MariaDB experience
- Version Control: Experience with using GitHub/BitBucket
- Performance Optimisation: Page speed optimisation, caching, and best practices
- Custom theme development from scratch
- Plugin development and customisation
- WordPress REST API
- Custom post types and ACF
- WordPress hooks and filters
- Experience with the Gutenberg Block Editor
- SASS/SCSS preprocessors
- Build tools (Webpack, Gulp, or similar)
- WordPress CLI (WP-CLI)
- Local development environments (i.e. DDEV/Docker)
- Basic server management and hosting knowledge
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills for client and team interactions
- Time management and the ability to handle multiple projects
