Tailoring conventional ecommerce for a new, multi-layered, eLearning management platform for healthcare professionals

Future-proofing a digital product for success

Our brief was to create a new, scalable and user-friendly ecommerce platform, to replace an older system. Fully optimised, the product can be used by both individuals and business buyers.

Working with Skills for Health’s refreshed brand aesthetic, we collaborated with Workforce Development Trust (WDTrust) to understand and plan the many facets of the user journey.

Users of the platform include individual customers and business customers, through to internal administrators and course providers so it was vital to find a solution that met all stakeholders’ requirements.

Starting with an “Out-of-the-box” ecommerce solution

The new ecommerce platform allows for greater maintenance and development capabilities than the previous version. Naturally, it is SEO optimised and delivers greater ROI and conversion.

The product required many layers to offer a coherent experience, allowing for a greater level of automation for things like renewal notifications and other event-triggered communications.

Additionally, the system introduced the capability to integrate data flows into other digital architecture (eg. financial / CRM, licence management etc).

Custom payment structures

The new product, demanded complex scoping beyond the conventional ecommerce requirement. In general, these include user accounts, account and admin management, order confirmation and discounts.

 

Customisable pricing calculators were needed for each user group (individual, business, and partner). Furthermore, course bundles and triggered notifications for discounts based on pricing logic, had to be factored in.

Upselling was fundamental to increase conversions, ensuring related courses and course bundles are accessible throughout the user journey. In addition to this, we introduce more options to the buyer, using a standard wholesale methodology, by pushing bespoke deals into their baskets.
