From keyboards to litter pickers with Harwich Haven Authority

Last month four of our team joined our client, Harwich Haven Authority (HHA), on the coast to help open its Sustainability Week 2026 as part of the Great British Beach Clean.

HHA asked us to include volunteering and work experience placements in our brief. So when HHA opened Sustainability Week 2026 with a lunchtime litter pick for the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean, we joined in.

Pupils from a local primary school came along too, and it was good to see young people taking an interest in the coastline on their doorstep.

Litter on the shore harms wildlife and spoils the places people come to enjoy. Clearing it is simple work, and it counts most when lots of people do it regularly. That thinking sits behind the ‘two-minute clean’ stations which HHA helps restock with litter-picking tools and reusable bags manufactured from recycled marine and ocean plastics, and behind its Fishing For Litter partnership to promote marine waste reduction.

The same brief brought 14-year old Megan to our development team for four weeks of work experience. Seeing what she achieved is the clearest proof of why we value this part of the brief.

Our work with HHA covers the deliverables, but it also covers showing up for the community around them and supporting young people at the start of their careers.

Thanks to HHA for having us, and for making Megan’s placement possible.
